Earlier this week, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy announced his picks for the January 6 select committee to investigate the Capitol insurrection -- and on his list was Rep. Jim Jordan. That's right, the same guy who spent months spreading the Big Lie and voted to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
It's clear why McCarthy wanted Jim Jordan to be a part of this investigation. Jordan has always been one of Donald Trump's biggest supporters -- even leading his defense team during his 2020 impeachment trial in the Senate.
McCarthy, Trump, and the rest of the Treason Caucus were counting on Jordan to do everything he can to impede this investigation so they can escape accountability for their attacks on our democracy.
Fortunately, Speaker Nancy Pelosi rejected McCarthy's pick of Jordan to serve on the committee.
Speaker Pelosi understands how important it is to discover the truth about the events of January 6 to protect our democracy, and she knows it would be impossible with Jordan on the committee. Her decision to reject Jordan is a step toward uncovering the truth for the American people and holding the responsible parties accountable.
