On this day in 1848, a group of ambitious women, motivated for change, concluded what is widely recognized in U.S. history as the first-ever feminist convention.

At the two-day convention in Seneca Falls, these trailblazing women gathered to write the Declaration of Sentiments — a document that declared all men and women equal, which paved the way for generations of feminists to fight for women's rights to education, to property ownership, to voting, and other key women's issues.

Today, almost two centuries later, the women of America have made outstanding achievements in the way of equal rights. But the glass ceiling is far from shattered.

Women are still fighting for equality on several fronts: from reproductive justice to gender pay. And for far too long, women (particularly women of color) have lacked fair representation in government.

At No Dem Left Behind, we're absolutely determined to level the playing field. In 2020, our cohort of Democrats was composed of over 70% women candidates. And while we look ahead at 2022, there are currently NO Black women serving in the Senate — so we're fighting alongside Val Demings to change that as she seeks the open Senate seat in Florida.
