Your boss has it out for you. Or well, it feels like they do. It’s something in the looks that you’re getting and the projects you aren’t. You sense something is wrong at work, you just know it. You have to push back, for both yourself and your family. But this can’t start by firing off an email with your complaints. It is your job and it’s still a shaky economy. So, how do you tactfully stand up for yourself and figure out the problem, without dropping a match and burning any unnecessary bridges? It’s time to demonstrate some discretion.

TIPS AND TRICKS

5 Strategies to Help Make Work From Home More Manageable

1. Lowering expectations can feel like weakness, but the truth is you have less time for your work day. Trying to accomplish everything just amps up the stress. Start the day by creating a to-do list of no more than two items that you want to accomplish. It will keep you focused amid all the random stuff that’s going to be thrown at you.

2.  Think about a trait you want to pass down to your kids. Write that on a note and stick it on your computer as your guide. Look at this to remind yourself of the end goal and what’s important.

3. Around noon, take a 15-minute walk. You get up and out of the house, and the pace gets your heart and endorphins pumping. Better yet? Try this 15-minute bodyweight workout.

4.  Let your colleagues know what you’re juggling. Say, “Tuesdays and Fridays my kids are at home for school,” or, “Noon is a busy time around here.” And then let them know when you’ll be back online. People tend to be more understanding now, but they don’t automatically know your situation. You have to tell them.

5.  When you receive an assignment with a deadline, ask “What’s the latest I can get it to you?” Sounds obvious, but it’s amazing how many people don’t ask. Once armed with this knowledge, you can work smarter, not harder.

SuperNest Hammock by ENO

Don’t make the mistake of taking a camping hammock to the backyard. Splurge on this comfy, roomy version that can hold up to 400 pounds. It has pockets to keep your phone and drink handy — your real bed doesn’t even do that. The contoured center is more stable than traditional spreader bar-style hammocks, and the two pillows make it easy to share space with someone else.
