Last week, Texas Governor Greg Abbott called a special session of the state legislature in an attempt to ram through his racist voter suppression legislation under the pretense of preventing widespread "voter fraud."

But Republican legislators had no real evidence of voter fraud — because it’s actually very rare — and they were forced to admit as much.

Then, something remarkable happened: dozens of Texans came out to the Capitol building to push back against the new measures and explain how their lives had been negatively impacted by voter suppression. And on Monday, Democrats in the legislature fled the state in protest of the new restrictions.

John, it’s clear: Americans are sick of fighting tooth and nail against the Republican Party simply to exercise their constitutionally-protected right to vote.

Congress must support the people of Texas — and Democrats in the state legislature — by abolishing the filibuster and passing comprehensive voting rights legislation like the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.

But the truth is that my allies in Congress and I are facing pushback not just from Republicans, but also some members of our own party.

The only way we’ll be able to go up against them and win is with your support - so I’m asking:

Can you make a contribution to my campaign today to show your support as I fight to abolish the filibuster and pass the For the People Act? Your support is critical, especially right now.

A massive overhaul of federal voting rights legislation means we won’t have to worry about Republicans like Greg Abbott and members of the Texas legislature undermining American democracy, including in the 2022 midterm election and the next presidential election.

But every day that goes by without voting rights protections is an opportunity for Republicans to enact legislation disenfranchising people of color, young and working people, formerly incarcerated individuals, and other groups that have been historically left out of the democratic process.

That’s why I won’t back down until we abolish the filibuster and pass comprehensive voting rights legislation. If you’re able, please make a contribution today to support me in this endeavor.

Thank you, as always, for your support.

Onward,
Mondaire
