This month, roughly 39 million American families are receiving monthly payments of up to $300 per child through the newly expanded Child Tax Credit. About 90% of American families with children will get this new tax relief automatically.
The Child Tax Credit is part of the American Rescue Plan that David and his colleagues passed in March. In addition to another round of stimulus checks, enhanced federal unemployment benefits, funding for vaccine distribution and testing, and help for state and local governments, this historic legislation expanded the Child Tax Credit, cutting child poverty nearly in HALF.
This expansion is currently a temporary pandemic relief measure, but Democrats are fighting to ensure this support for families and children becomes permanent law!
Do you agree we need to make the expanded Child Tax Credit permanent?
The expanded Child Tax Credit boosts the existing tax benefit from $2,000 up to $3,600 for each kid under 6 and $3,000 for each kid aged 6-17. Checks hitting bank accounts moving forward throughout 2021 are an advance on half what parents are typically entitled to receive when they file taxes.
This is a crucial lifeline for so many American families recovering from the economic downturn post-pandemic. But the need will not disappear when the pandemic does, and parents and kids need our continued support to thrive!
Let David know your thoughts on the expanded Child Tax Credit today!
Thank you!
