Texas Democrats are have fled for Washington, D.C. to protect their constituents from the passage of harmful GOP-backed legislation on issues like: voting rights, protections for transgender athletes, abortion, and school curriculums.

Their walk-out was strategic both by disrupting quorum so that this legislation couldn’t be voted on; and by fleeing to D.C. where they could lobby for stronger voter protections while raising the profile of the issues in Texas.

Garnering that national attention comes at a price: GOP leaders including Senator Ted Cruz and Governor Greg Abbott are leading a campaign to have these Democrats arrested and punished for their actions upon their return to Texas.
