Donald Trump wins, followed closely by Ron DeSantis!

Former president Donald Trump wins the conservative political action conference straw poll revealed at CPAC Texas this past weekend. The survey showed that 70 percent of survey takers would vote for the former president if the 2024 GOP primary were held today.

Florida governor Ron DeSantis came in second with 21 percent. A second poll that did not have Trump running in 2024 showed DeSantis in the lead with 68 percent of the vote.

The American Seniors Association was present for CPAC Texas in Dallas. Here are some quotes that stood out from the weekend:

“We have an obligation to guard our fragile freedoms. We could lose these in a matter of decades.”—Matt Schlapp, chairman American Conservative Union.

“We have to defend our freedom every single day and fight against the Communist aggression. China is intent on global dominance by 2050. Did we say we did enough?” –Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn.

“It takes courage to stand up and do the right things –to stand up for our liberties and our freedom. We have to take a stand in defense of liberty.” –Jody Hice, R-GA
