With anti-choice state legislators pushing an unprecedented number of attacks on abortion and a case challenging Roe v. Wade set to be heard by the anti-choice supermajority on the Supreme Court, NARAL Pro-Choice America is committed to meeting these attacks on abortion care head on. As part of our five-year planning process, the NARAL Board outlined a new strategic vision and plan with the goal of transforming NARAL into an even stronger and more effective organization ready for the fights ahead.

As we have done a number of times throughout our over 50 year history, we are evaluating our organization and structure as part of our planning for all that lies ahead. But one fundamental thing has not changed: Members like you remain the heart and soul of this organization, and we’re ready to fight shoulder to shoulder with you now and into the future.

When the board began their strategic planning process over a year ago, they knew it was a critical time to get it right given the backdrop of unprecedented attacks on our fundamental freedoms. The board then made the decision to shift to a nationwide model, working both federally and on the ground at the state and community levels, rather than an affiliated structure.

NARAL values the partnership of our state affiliates and has made clear there is room for everyone within this new structure. For many years we have had the opportunity to collaborate and work in partnership with our state affiliates to fight back against attacks on reproductive freedom and to protect and expand access to contraception, abortion, paid family leave, and more. We are grateful to our state affiliates and their staff for all they have done to create change in their states and communities.

We are not moving away from our state-level commitments, in fact our goal is to continue to improve and maximize our ability to engage and mobilize the full potential of our collective strength — members and supporters like you from all corners of the country, reflecting the communities in which you live.

This is a pivotal time — for our organization and our movement — and NARAL remains committed to making sure every body has the freedom to make personal decisions about pregnancy and parenting free from political interference. We’re drawing on every tool we have to innovate and adapt in the face of new threats and opportunities and strategizing on what the new political and policy frontiers look like, particularly around expanding medication abortion care access.

You won’t be surprised to hear that we’re doubling down on our research — enabling us to frame this fight, mobilize our champions, and win the hearts and minds of the majority of folks who are committed to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom. Our opposition research work is first-in-class and we continue to doggedly track and expose the anti-choice movement and its propaganda-fueled crusade against legal abortion.

In partnership with other organizations, we’re taking the lead on understanding and mobilizing to end denials of care policies, which allow providers and hospitals to deny people across to the care they need, including abortion and gender-affirming care.

Recognizing that there can be no reproductive freedom without freedom from tyranny and oppression, we’re strengthening our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and anti-racism efforts across all streams of our work.
