Cannabis is even legal for medical and recreational use in the state of Oregon, where the Olympic trials took place. The USADA’s inclusion of cannabis as a prohibited substance is an outdated and restrictive rule. It is also a reminder of our country’s cruel, failed War on Drugs — especially since cannabis lacks any scientific evidence as a performance-enhancing substance or competitive advantage. The Olympics offer the unique opportunity to showcase our best and brightest athletes once every four years. We should not let an outdated, misguided rule deprive deserving athletes of competing at the highest level. As Co-Chair of the bipartisan Congressional Cannabis Caucus, I know that ending the War on Drugs means speaking out against unjust cannabis policy wherever we find it. Thank you for raising your voice against this unjust policy alongside me. In solidarity, Barbara Lee |
