Check out the latest from NYGOP Volume 21 | July 11th, 2021 This Week at the NYGOP Follow Us On Social Media! ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ Dear John, It didn't take long for power-hungry, egomaniac Andrew Cuomo to find another reason to give himself emergency powers. Last week, he declared a state of emergency disaster on gun violence giving him unilateral control that will do nothing to actually tamp down crime and should strike fear into every single New Yorker who values the Constitution and our Second Amendment. New York Republicans have been sounding the alarm on the rampant increase in crime across our state for the last two years. What did Cuomo think would happen when he let all the dangerous criminals out of jail with his reckless bail reform laws and attacks on our police? This is Andrew Cuomo's mess that HE created along with the Democrats in the legislature. He pushed for the elimination of bail, signed it into law and hailed it as one of his signature achievements. Democrats have created a public safety crisis by handcuffing and villainizing police while coddling violent career criminals by eliminating bail, loosening parole, and allowing them free rein in our communities. Just recently, Cuomo's parole board granted the release of a sex fiend who killed a teenage girl. They've released 16 cop killers in the last three years alone. The dismantling of our criminal justice system is unconscionable. The only way we are going to get this scourge of violence under control is to throw out the Democrats who created this nightmare in the first place–starting with Andrew Cuomo. Our NYGOP presumptive nominee, Congressman Lee Zeldin, is taking the fight directly to Cuomo across all 62 counties of the state of New York. At a time when we are all less safe and Democrats are continuing their war on our right to protect ourselves and our family, our great New York Republican Congresswoman Claudia Tenney is leading the charge against New Yorks's oppressive gun laws. Tenney and 168 fellow Congressional Representatives are putting their support behind the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association's lawsuit challenging legislation that violates our Second Amendment rights and the right of law-abiding gun owners to carry concealed. We won't sit back and all Cuomo to trample on our 2nd Amendment. We value all of your feedback and questions! Don't forget to hit the button below and send in any questions you may have for Chairman Langworthy and we will feature one in next week's newsletter! NYGOP Team Ask a Question! Question from Last Week: From Carol: If Cuomo declared an emergency on violence, why won't they keep all the criminals in jail instead of releasing them, like the killer from Rockland County? Answer: Thank you for your question, Carol. You hit the nail on the head. The reason we are in the midst of this public safety crisis is because Democrats are hellbent on dismantling every aspect of our criminal justice system. I hear it from law enforcement in every corner of the state--the elimination of bail has been the single biggest factor that has lead to rampant crime by violent, repeat offenders who have no business being back on the streets. We all warned this would happen, but New York Democrats didn't care about your safety. They were only concerned about satisfying their dishonest social justice narrative and New Yorkers are paying a very steep price. This past week, I held press conferences in Buffalo and Rochester to shine a light on all of this. Make no mistake: public safety is on the ballot this year and next. If you are outraged by the innocent lives being affected by these asinine policies, you MUST vote Republican. We have to send a BIG message that New Yorkers are demanding change. Curtis Sliwa Candidate for Mayor of NYC In the late 1970s, New York City was a modern-day equivalent of the Wild West. Murder and violent crime were the norm. A trip on the Subway was an exercise in urban survival. Residents of the city resigned themselves to reality as the politicians and police seemed powerless. However, a young man from Brooklyn, a former Jesuit student, felt someone had to do something. Curtis Sliwa stepped forward. He knew that the city he was born in, the city he loved, deserved better. Curtis Sliwa acted. Curtis Sliwa has spent 42 years dedicated to making NYC safe. He is the only choice for Mayor this November that will break up the status quo and keep our communities safe. #SaveNYC Website Facebook Twitter Instagram Donate Here NYGOP Must See News: Republicans Seek Resurgence in NY Through Cross-Party Appeal, 'New Generation of Leaders' New York Now State Republican Chairman Nick Langworthy said in a recent interview that the party plans to campaign on issues that affect all New Yorkers, regardless of their political leanings. “It’s running on a common sense agenda that can bring people together of all party affiliations,” Langworthy said on New York NOW. “We know we can’t run with some right-wing agenda that has any sort of extreme tendencies.” Langworthy said Republicans plan to focus on two issues at the top of New Yorkers’ minds: crime and the cost of living in New York. Republicans also plan to campaign on a promise to lower the cost of living in New York, where the population has grown at a slower pace over the last decade than other large states, like Texas and Florida, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Langworthy said Republicans would continue to make the pitch to voters that having Democrats in control of both houses of the state Legislature and the governor’s office has done little to lower the cost of living for residents in New York. New York GOP Chairman Nick Langworthy issued a statement opposing Governor Andrew Cuomo’s disaster emergency on gun violence on July 6, 2021. Chairman Langworthy’s full statement can be read below: “We have a state of emergency in New York–it’s called one-Party Democrat rule. What did Cuomo think would happen when he let all the dangerous criminals back onto the streets? We have a public safety crisis that has been created by Democrats who handcuff and villainize police, while coddling violent career criminals by eliminating bail, loosening parole and allowing them free rein in our communities. The only way we are going to get this scourge of violence under control is to throw out the Democrats who created this nightmare in the first place–starting with Andrew Cuomo.” Read Full Here Lee Zeldin criticizes Cuomo's gun violence state of emergency Spectrum News A day after Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced a first-of-its-kind state of emergency and seven-point plan to deal with a spike in gun violence in New York state, his potential Republican opponent in 2022 criticized him for failing to acknowledge the root cause of the problem. "Instead of putting handcuffs on criminals, we're putting handcuffs on police. You have to reverse cashless bail. You have to keep qualified immunity. It's impacting morale for our law enforcement. You have to look at why do we have the surge we do," U.S. Rep. Lee Zeldin said. Zeldin said criminal justice reform over the last several years from the state Legislature and Cuomo that, for instance, allows some people arrested with illegal firearms to immediately be released without bail, have created issues. He said without addressing it, Cuomo's plan is undermined. Read Full Here NY Rep. Tenney's push for Supreme Court to overturn state gun law has support from 168 House Republicans Fox News Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-N.Y., is pushing the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a state law limiting who can carry concealed handguns outside their homes, and she has support from 168 House Republicans. Tenney and the coalition of Republicans will file an amicus brief backing the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association's lawsuit against New York, arguing that its law denying concealed-carry licenses to law-abiding citizens without a "proper cause" determined by the state is a violation of Second Amendment rights, the congresswoman announced Tuesday. The Supreme Court on April 26 agreed to hear an appellate court's ruling upholding New York's state rules under the 1911 Sullivan Act. Robert McCain, 60, is set to be sprung from prison in August, following a recent decision by the state Parole Board in connection with his murder conviction in the grisly, 1980 stabbing of 16-year-old Paula Bohovesky in Pearl River. The move followed last year’s release of co-defendant Richard LaBarbera, whose conditions of parole ban him from Rockland, where Bohovesky’s mom, Lois Bohovesky, still lives in Pearl River.
