Today NARAL Pro-Choice America commemorates Indigenous Peoples’ Day

Today NARAL Pro-Choice America commemorates Indigenous Peoples’ Day, pledging to fight alongside indigenous peoples in their struggle for racial, environmental, economic, and social justice, and specifically, recommitting ourselves to the repeal of the Hyde Amendment.

The Hyde Amendment prevents the Indian Health Service (IHS) from using federal funds to cover abortion, creating one of the worst racial disparities in abortion access in the nation — and fundamentally denying Native women bodily autonomy, perpetuating a cycle of generational state violence against Native women’s reproductive freedom.1,2

Join us in commemorating Indigenous Peoples’ Day and pledge to help end the injustice of the Hyde Amendment by sharing this graphic featuring Rep. Deb Haaland, a reproductive freedom champion and one of the first Native women elected to Congress →

Indigenous women deserve to be protected just like anyone else in this country. Rep. Deb Haaland, D-NM #IndigenousPeoplesDay

In solidarity,
Team NARAL
