Hi John,

My name's Alan and I’ve been volunteering for Labour throughout this year’s local body elections.

As a pretty intense weekend is now over I'm reflecting on an action-packed few months.

The young woman in the photo with me is Teri O'Neill who is now the Labour councillor for the Eastern Ward on the Wellington City Council. The photo was taken late last summer at a planning day we had to plot the campaign. The campaign ran on people power and volunteers engaging with voters. It also pretty much ran on the proverbial "smell of an oily rag"! But we had two secret weapons: fantastic volunteers, who went above and beyond, and most importantly a candidate who could inspire them and voters.

Many young people were elected over the weekend around the country, and none deserve their position more than Teri. She combines steely determination and a massive work ethic with genuine compassion and values. She will be a great councillor and represent her constituents well. Also, this campaign has taught me you're never too old to be part of a youthquake!

I’m proud to be part of the Labour Party and proud that our movement is made possible through the generosity of our volunteers, who give their time after work and on the weekends, to support our movement.
