This week, Emgage Action is urging our community members to engage with their elected officials to support:

  • The passage of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act in the Senate - end racial & religious profiling, banning chokeholds & no-knock warrants, limit military equipment & require body cameras, hold police accountable in court, investigate police misconduct, and much more.
  • The passage of the For the People Act in the Senate - to expand Americans' access to the ballot box, reduce the influence of big money in politics, strengthen ethics rules for public servants, and implement other anti-corruption measures for the purpose of fortifying our democracy.

  • The passage of the NO BAN Act in the Senate - rescind Trump's Muslim Ban and amend the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) to ensure that future administrations are unable to enact discriminatory bans again.

Introduced as a broader effort to combat systemic racism in the justice system and the assault on voter rights, the House of Representatives passed both the 'George Floyd Justice in Policing Act' and the 'For the People Act' in March of 2021, the latter of which, despite unified support in the Democratic caucus, but has been blocked by Senate Republicans with a filibuster since June 22. The House also passed the 'NO BAN Act' in April of 2021.

Now, we're asking our community members to urge their Senators to take action on these three key pieces of legislation to protect Black, Brown, and Muslim communities.

Pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act
Pass the For the People Act
Pass the NO BAN Act in the Senate

Next week, Emgage Action, in partnership with the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), will be releasing a joint package - for elected officials, law enforcement agencies, and our community members - to address the growing threat of domestic terrorism by White Supremacists, the double standards in prosecution, and the tools we have to combat it.

Stay tuned for next week's public rollout of this package, titled 'The Double Standards of U.S. FTO vs. DTO Prosecution'.

Sincerely,

Wa'el Alzayat, Emgage Action CEO
