Governor Edwards vetoed this bill because it would get rid of common sense permit and training requirements for concealed carry and jeopardize public safety, but some legislators want to override his veto.
As The Advocate noted [[link removed]] , "on this bill, he sided with law enforcement officials who said allowing people to conceal guns without qualifications would not help the increasing number of shootings across the state." In addition, Supreme Court justices like Antonin Scalia have ruled that permitting requirements for concealed carry do not violate the 2nd Amendment.
Governor Edwards is a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment, but he also believes in standing with law enforcement to keep Louisianans safe. That's why we need to help uphold his veto of SB 118.
