Check out the latest from NYGOP Volume 20 | July 3rd, 2021 This Week at the NYGOP Follow Us On Social Media! ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ Dear John, Happy July 4th Weekend! This past week, Republican county chairs and leaders from across the state of New York met in Albany on Monday to hear from the excellent slate of Republicans running for Governor, as well as potential candidates for other statewide offices. After the candidate speeches, a straw poll was taken in which Congressman Lee Zeldin received 85% of the weighted vote, making him the clear presumptive nominee. We also had the pleasure of hearing from Michael Henry and John Sarcone, potential candidates for Attorney General, as well as Joe Pinion who is considering a possible run against Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. We are preparing to create the strongest ticket since 1994 when New Yorkers elected a Republican Governor and Republican Attorney General. Chaos ensued in Democrat-run NYC this week when over 100,000 "dummy ballots" were accidentally included in the real rank choice voting count. This is just the latest in embarrassing disasters that are the result of Democrats ramming through changes to our elections in the name of "expanding democracy" without paying attention to the added burdens, funding, and security required to achieve free, fair & secure elections. No wonder people have no faith in our system. We still have no idea who the official winner of the Democratic Primary is and will not know until next week at the earliest. What we do know is that whatever Democrat ultimately emerges as the nominee, we cannot trust them to do what's necessary to save New York City. We can't expect the Party who created this crisis to fix it, and that's why we need to elect our Republican Candidate, Curtis Sliwa in November. He is the only candidate with a proven track record of taking on the status quo and cleaning up the streets. The Assembly Impeachment Committee met yet again behind closed doors where they finally decided to issue subpoenas so that they can get to the truth. While this is a step in the right direction, it should have been done 3 months ago when the investigation started and the information was fresh. There is no acceptable explanation as to why they took this long. Andrew Cuomo's cronies in the legislature are hell-bent on dragging everything out and stalling in hopes that the public will just stop paying attention. Meanwhile, Cuomo is using this time to gear up for reelection by holding $10,000/person fundraisers with union bosses and special interests with business before the state. It is up to us as Republicans to keep reminding New Yorkers of Andrew Cuomo's corruption and crimes. We are fighting for accountability and justice, but whatever happens, we intend to elect a strong, Republican governor who will drain the Albany swamp and #SaveOurState! We value all of your feedback and questions! Don't forget to hit the button below and send in any questions you may have for Chairman Langworthy and we will feature one in next week's newsletter! NYGOP Team Ask a Question! Question from Last Week: From Allen: What is going on with our elections? Every year there is something totally new and it takes longer and longer to even see any results. Answer: Thank you for your question, Allen. This is an issue that is affecting us both at the national level and here in New York. Democrats have been ramming through changes to our elections to satisfy their political agenda without concern for how it affects the ability to protect the integrity of our elections. They have placed huge burdens on the Boards of Elections and refuse to adopt commonsense policies that would make our elections more secure. Ironically, with the mess created by the Ranked Choice Voting problems, Democrats are now complaining about election integrity as well. We doubt this will be a wake-up call for them, but the Republican Party is just as committed to election security and protecting the integrity of YOUR vote. NYGOP Presumptive Nominee for Governor: Congressman Lee Zeldin Republicans gathered from every corner of New York State for our 2nd candidate forum. A straw poll was conducted following the event where Congressman Lee Zeldin secured 85% of the vote, making him our clear presumptive nominee for governor. Democrats Own This Mess! Going to the polls and voting for your preferred candidate has worked for the entirety of our democracy, but it is no surprise NYC Democrats have found a way to totally upend that American institution as well. They own this mess--it's no surprise people are questioning the integrity of our elections. WATCH: Democrats are the ones who are DEFUNDING THE POLICE. Biden Press Secretary Jen Psaki absurdly stood behind the presidential seal and boldly lied to reporters that Republicans are the ones defunding the police. This is truly their most laughable claim yet. Republicans brought the receipts. ROLL THE TAPE! Watch Here Candidate of the Week! Every week we are choosing a candidate to highlight who needs your support! Ray Tierney Candidate for Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney graduated from Brown University in 1988, and St. John’s University law school in 1992: He worked for 14 years as an Assistant District Attorney in Suffolk County. During his career in Suffolk, he investigated and prosecuted cases involving organized crime, street gangs, murders, and other violent street crimes. He also investigated political corruption, domestic violence, child abuse, and child pornography. These prosecutions included long-term investigations in which he supervised the efforts of designated teams of detectives utilizing wiretaps, search warrants, and grand jury investigations in order to uncover criminal activity and bring those responsible to justice. He oversaw all aspects of long-term violent street gang investigations and prosecutions in the office and worked with the NYPD and federal partners on developing investigations to seize guns, prosecute gang murders, and allocate resources to dismantle the many criminal street gangs causing most of the violence in Brooklyn. Ray is a candidate for District Attorney in Suffolk County, running on both the Republican and Conservative lines in the November 2021 election. As a career prosecutor, he is not a member of any political party and is running to rid the District Attorney’s Office of the rampant partisan politics it is historically known for. He is particularly concerned with the politicization of criminal justice issues such as the “Defund the Police” movement, disastrous bail reform laws, and overly burdensome discovery rules, all designed to make it harder to put bad guys away. Ray and his wife are raising their four children in Suffolk County and want them to grow up in a safe and crime-free environment. Lee Zeldin, a four-term member of Congress from Long Island's Suffolk County, as their pick to run for governor next year, when Andrew Cuomo may be running for a fourth term. Zeldin earned 85 percent of the weighted vote in a straw poll taken during a meeting of county leaders in a suburb of Albany. State party Chair Nick Langworthy said Zeldin will now be considered the “presumed nominee,” allowing him roughly 17 months to drum up support and donors for the 2022 general election. “Lee has earned this,” Langworthy said. “I know there are some candidates speculating there was some back-door [dealing]…it was a front-door campaign. It was absolutely a front-door campaign because Lee Zeldin has zigzagged this state at a rapid pace that I’ve never seen before.” Read Full Here EXCLUSIVE: Rep. Tenney, House Republicans To Introduce ‘End Zuckerbucks Act’ Prohibiting Non-Profits From Donating To Election Organizations The Daily Caller Republican New York Rep. Claudia Tenney will introduce legislation Thursday that would amend the Internal Revenue Code to prohibit 501(c)(3) tax exempt organizations from providing direct funding to official election organizations. The Daily Caller first obtained the legislation, titled the “End Zuckerbucks Act.” The legislation would prohibit non-profits from providing direct funding to state and local election officials or risk losing their tax exempt status. A group of House Republicans, led by Tenney, previously sent a letter to the “left-leaning” group Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL), calling on them to detail expenditure of the hundreds of millions of dollars they received during the COVID-19 pandemic. They alleged in the letter that the group spent less than 1% on personal protective equipment (PPE). Read Full Here NY Republican Party chair believes GOP can avoid gubernatorial primary Capital Tonight According to Nick Langworthy, chairman of the New York State Republican Party, there is now one presumed Republican nominee for governor. “Lee Zeldin, congressman from Suffolk County, who has been on nine statewide tours," Langworthy told Capital Tonight. "He’s campaigned in all 62 counties, in some counties as many as six times. I’ve never really seen a candidate go with a rapid pace that Lee Zeldin set in this process. He just set himself above the other candidates and that’s why he was so successful.” “We had a vote today," Langworthy said. "We have a presumed nominee and that nominee is Lee Zeldin. I expect he will be the formally nominated candidate. I will be doing joint appearances with Congressman Zeldin." Read Full Here NYC mayoral primary in chaos after 135,000 pre-election test ballots counted Fox News The New York City Board of Elections on Tuesday faced swift backlash over an error that resulted in 135,000 pre-election test votes being counted because they were not properly purged from the system. The BOE took to Twitter to announce the issue and said these test votes were not cleared from the Election Management System. The board apologized and said it took "immediate measures to ensure the most accurate up to date results are reported." Karol Markowicz, a columnist for the New York Post, tweeted, "Can’t be overstated how damaging this kind of thing is to public trust in elections." Read Full Here Most New Yorkers want Cuomo to resign or not seek re-election, poll shows New York Post Nearly two-thirds of New York voters would rather Gov. Andrew Cuomo resign from office immediately or not run for a fourth term, according to a new Siena College poll released Thursday. Almost a quarter (23 percent) of registered voters surveyed said the embattled Democratic governor should step down now, while a further 39 percent said Cuomo can finish his current term but should run for re-election in 2022. However, if Cuomo did seek a fourth term, more than half (56 percent) of voters said they would prefer to elect “someone else.” The telling results come as the New York Democrat faces multiple, separate investigations, including an impeachment inquiry, into allegations of sexual harassment and his administration’s handling of COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes.
