Dear John,

Tuesday was Primary Day here in New York and there were several primaries across the state, most notably for the New York City Mayor's race. While we still don't know the official winner of the Democrat primary, it appears lead vote-getter Eric Adams is poised to secure the nomination. Interestingly, even Democrat voters gravitated to Adams' pro-police & public safety message. The people get it and they are fed up with the left demolishing our criminal justice system! But, regardless of his nice-sounding rhetoric, the truth is we can't trust any of the Democrats to do what's really necessary to save our city from the economic and public safety crisis we are facing. All you really need to know about Eric Adams' true political philosophy is that he voted for Bernie Sanders in the presidential primary. That's why we need to elect a Republican mayor to truly turn the city around.

There was an interesting development in the Attorney General's ongoing investigation when it was revealed this week that Cuomo's top aide and press hatchetman, Rich Azzopardi, was called in for questioning. Sources seem to indicate that the AG is nearing completion of her investigations but it's unclear if he was forced to testify under oath. We know the Cuomo administration's penchant for lying. One thing is clear: anything short of an indictment for his deadly nursing home coverup would be a miscarriage of justice.

Cuomo also announced this week that he was declaring an end to the state of emergency and his extraordinary powers that went along with it. That might sound strange to some, given the legislature swore they ended them months ago, but we knew the truth all along. Of course, in true Cuomo fashion, he made this announcement in the press without any communication with local officials who were on the frontlines of managing the virus and dealing with his dictates.

After widespread Republican pressure and more than 90 days of being appointed the lead on the border crisis, Kamala Harris is finally visiting the border. But don't get too excited--it appears to be nothing more than a publicity stunt because former President Trump forced her hand. Don't expect this administration to change their open border policies that have led to record illegal crossings, drug and human trafficking, and forced labor. Read more about her phony visit in Chairman Langworthy's answer to the reader question below.

Question from Last Week:

From Valerie: Kamala Harris is visiting the border but the damage is already past the crisis point. Do you expect anything to change?

Answer: Thank you for your question, Valerie. In short, NO. The only reason she is even visiting the border is because of widespread Republican pressure and former President Trump's announcement that is going. She took tremendous heat for her callous, flippant attitude toward a massive humanitarian and safety crisis. But if you want some real insight into how seriously they are treating this, consider the fact that they are going on a summer Friday (typically the day you want to bury news) and she is visiting a spot that is not the epicenter of the problem, which is the Rio Grande Valley. It's the equivalent of viewing Chicago's problems while standing in New York. The Biden Administration is responsible for this crisis and I have no faith they will do what's necessary to fix it.
Chairman Nick Langworthy Met With President Donald Trump This Week
It was really great to catch up and visit with President Trump this week back at Trump Tower. That’s where I first met him back in 2014 when we tried to convince him to run for Governor. No matter where his official residence is, he’ll always be a New Yorker!
New York Post Op-Ed: Our prosecutors
are imperiling us
What to say about the Bronx and Manhattan district attorneys throwing out most of the looting and vandalism cases from the wake of the George Floyd protests last year? Outrageous doesn’t quite cover it. Shameful, disgraceful, disgusting, as local businesses put it. All true. But above all else, these sorts of games by our elected prosecutors are dangerous. In New York, people were caught on camera pulling up in SUVs, stealing goods by the trash-bagful, and driving off. This is peaceful protest? This is social justice? And yet Bronx DA Darcel Clark and Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance Jr. claim they can’t prove cases, so they are tossing them by the hundreds. BULL. They don’t want to put in the resources and work to see thieves and rioters get punished...

Alicia Purdy
Mayor- City of Albany

I was born and raised in the Capital Region and moved into Albany in 2001. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting and a Master’s degree in Journalism. My writing and editing career has spanned the globe and I’ve covered everything from government to business and finance to religion as the Managing Editor of several publishing companies.

Each of these career facets added another layer of complexity and experience to my arsenal of leadership and prepared me for taking the next step in my career.

A long time ago, one of my mentors in journalism said to me, “If you want to change the world, run for office.” From that point on, I decided that I would one day run for office so that I could use my skills and abilities, education and experience to help as many people as possible in the city that I love.

I am campaigning for Mayor of Albany as “The People’s Mayor” because I firmly believe that the greatest asset we have in our city is our people. Our city is filled with beautiful diversity, but what unites us all is the desire to live in safety, to have a city that we can be proud of, to thrive, and have a strong economic foundation upon which we can build our lives.

The driving force behind “The People’s Mayor” is Albany’s people- every race, every culture, every lifestyle, every expression of individuality, every community, every religion (or non-religion)… We are united more than we are divided and my vision for Albany is that we start transforming our city from the starting point of common ground, lead by a Mayor whose only agenda is the people!

NYGOP Must See News:
The next New York gubernatorial election is still nearly a year and a half away, but state Republicans are already trying to get behind a single candidate who they hope has a chance of winning in an increasingly blue state. Republicans, who have not won a statewide election in nearly 20 years, are energized by the multiple scandals that are weakening current Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo is facing allegations of sexual harassment and an investigation by the state’s attorney general, as well as a federal probe into how he and his top aides handled nursing home policy during the COVID-19 pandemic. He’s also accused of improperly using staff to help him write a memoir that earned him $5.1 million.

Investigators with the New York state attorney general’s office have interviewed a senior adviser to Gov. Andrew Cuomo and are examining the environment in the governor’s office going back more than a decade, according to people familiar with the matter. Investigators spoke recently with Rich Azzopardi, a senior adviser who is one of the governor’s principal spokespeople, the people said. He is the highest-ranking current aide to Mr. Cuomo known to have been interviewed as part of the investigation into sexual-harassment allegations against the governor overseen by Attorney General Letitia James. People familiar with the probe said they expected the governor’s senior aides, including Mr. Azzopardi, to be among the last questioned in the probe, which was launched in March. Speaking at an unrelated press conference on Thursday, Ms. James said the investigation “will conclude when it concludes.”

As the national economy recovers from the pandemic and begins to take off, New York City is lagging, with changing patterns of work and travel threatening the engines that have long powered its jobs and prosperity. New York has suffered deeper job losses as a share of its work force than any other big American city. And while the country has regained two-thirds of the positions it lost after the coronavirus arrived, New York has recouped fewer than half, leaving a deficit of more than 500,000 jobs.

The state legislature has adjourned for the rest of the year, but the Senate Committee on Investigations is continuing its look into allegedly faulty bolts on the Governor Cuomo Tappan Zee Bridge. The State Thruway Authority has been adamant about its stance that there was never anything wrong with the bolts and that the twin-span bridge connecting Westchester and Rockland is structurally sound.

Then yesterday afternoon, the New York State Liquor Authority announced the end of a particularly popular, and successful, pandemic-era development: takeout and delivery alcohol from bars and restaurants. There was always the expectation that this could end, even as this new source of revenue helped countless businesses stay in operation. The announcement itself was disappointing enough, but the timing was, as New York Times restaurant critic Pete Wells put it, “one last sucker punch for restaurants and bars.” The SLA made the announcement on Twitter, and gave these businesses just over 33 hours to prepare and comply. (Adding to the confusion was the fact that, as recently as June 6, the SLA explained — also on Twitter — that the program would continue until at least July 5.)
