Senate Republicans blocked the For the People Act this week.

This bill is critical to the future of our democracy. Republicans in state legislatures are busy passing every restrictive voting measure they can think of ahead of their plans to gerrymander House districts to favor the GOP – and the For the People Act would put in place national voting rights standards to hobble many of these restrictive bills.

This is not over. Democrats will continue to fight for our democracy and demand voting rights legislation in Congress. But here’s the truth: If Republicans retake the majority, there is no hope of passing this critical legislation.

Earlier this year, David and his colleagues took action to protect our democracy from voter suppression by passing the For the People Act through the House. The bill will expand access to the ballot box through programs like automatic voter registration, end partisan gerrymandering, clamp down on dark money, and more.

Republicans are doing everything they can to prevent this bill from passing, including filibustering it on the Senate floor. They know they can’t win elections and hold power without voter suppression laws on their side!
