June 25, 2021

Greetings,

As your Representative in Congress, I wanted to provide you with an update on my recent activity in D.C. and in Georgia's Thirteenth District:

Celebrating LGBTQ Pride Month (June 2021)

Pride began as a fight for the American ideals of life and liberty for all. In these shared ideals and our commitment to a more perfect union, we can all draw upon the LGBTQ community’s legacy of fierce activism and persistence in the face of adversity to demand that our laws protect the rights of all of our neighbors to live open, free and honest lives without fear of discrimination or harassment.

I am proud to be an ally in that fight.

Commemorating National Gun Violence Awareness Month

This Congress, I voted to pass H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, and H.R. 1446, the Enhanced Background Checks Act, in March of 2021 to help stem the tide of gun violence facing our communities.

The tragedy brought into communities, families and neighborhoods by gun violence is preventable. Enough was enough long ago. Congress must do more to ensure the safety of our communities, and I call on the Senate to swiftly take up the reform measures that passed in the House of Representatives earlier this year. Together, we can save lives.

ICYMI: "Juneteenth" Named National Federal Holiday

Juneteenth commemorates the arrival of Union soldiers in the city of Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865, more than two years after the issuing of the Emancipation Proclamation, to deliver the news that all enslaved African Americans were now free. 156 years later, and we continue to reflect on the persistent and stinging legacy of the institution of slavery.

Earlier this month, I delivered remarks on the floor of the House of Representatives in support of S.475, the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act, legislation to make June 19th a federal holiday.

CBS46: Congressman David Scott Introduces ‘Earn While You Learn’ Apprenticeships Act

Watch Congressman David Scott discuss registered apprenticeships and the momentum behind his “Earn While You Learn” bill on CBS46

Hundreds of Douglas County students have transformed their lives at West Georgia Technical College through the power of technical education. These union-backed training programs lead to high-quality and high-paying jobs, and it’s time for Congress and the federal government to do more to expand programs like these right here at home and to strengthen and diversify the talent pipeline for registered apprenticeships.

- Janah C. | Douglasville, GA

Thank you to your office for consulting with me and helping me reunite with my family after 14 years of separation. Before that, the last time I saw my daughter was when she was 11 years old, and she is now 25 with kids of her own. I hadn’t seen my grandchildren in many years. Valuable time went by, and then I contacted Congressman Scott, whose staff made it their duty to reach out to USCIS on my behalf and help me get an interview for a visa. Had it not been for his intervention, reuniting with my family would not have been possible.
- Adolphus M. | Riverdale, GA

I express sincere gratitude to the office staff of Congressman David Scott for their successful resolution of my issue with the Department of Education.
- Addie S. | Mableton, GA
