Friend,
This week we released what I think
may be our most important ad of 2021, “The Mission,” and I wanted to
tell you about why I think it’s so crucial.
Everyone knew what the stakes were
in 2020. In a lot of ways, it was easier. Beat Trump. Beat everyone
who supported Trump. And we did, with your help.
But this time, due in no small part
to the machinations of our opponents, the battlefield is murkier. It
seems like there are so many things we have to take on. Voter
suppression in Georgia, Iowa, Texas, and in dozens of other GOP-held
states. Corporations supporting insurrectionists. Every time McConnell
or McCarthy opens his mouth it’s something else. And of course, the
fight to pass voting rights in the Senate. We have to take on these
anti-democratic movements everywhere, and we can’t be
distracted.
Here is our mission, and it is
critical. We have to sound the alarm for our democracy. We are taking
on an autocratic movement. As Steve said last week bipartisanship is a
delusion right now. There is no Republican Party anymore. It’s just
Trump and the people enabling him.
Tens
of thousands of supporters have already pitched in just this month to
make sure we have what it takes to take them on. You probably saw that
Marjorie Taylor Greene, Ted Cruz, and the rest of the seditionists are
raising millions off the Big Lie. We need your help to fight back,
Friend >>
What that means in simple terms is
that none of them can win if we want to save our democracy. We have to
stamp this out and that means winning at the polls and making sure
they can’t rig elections by making it harder for people to vote. It
all comes back to having every single person of good faith in this
country raise their hands and say they’ll all do what it
takes.
We are going to take the fight to
anyone who opposes democracy. Trump. McConnell. McCarthy. Everyone who
is part of this autocratic movement -- including the corporations who
support them.
Why do we keep saying “sound the
alarm?” Look around. The Senate is bogged down in the delusion that
bipartisanship is going to fix the problem.
There are not two parties anymore.
Democrats are negotiating with -- pick your metaphor -- Matthew Dowd
called it black mold. I see it as either negotiating with the hostage
takers (Trump) or those held hostage by him (the rest of whatever the
Republican Party is now). Do you really think negotiation is the
answer?
Enthusiasm for Trump is outpacing
enthusiasm for Democrats by a significant margin. The only way we fix
it is to call it what it is and make sure everyone -- from you, to
your friends and family, to everyone with a stake in the survival of
American democracy -- does their part.
It is not an exaggeration to say
that our democracy teeters on a knife’s edge. But we are not afraid.
We have never been afraid to take on anyone. It’s part of
our DNA and why you support us.
We are wrapping up this fundraising
quarter now. Our team at the Lincoln Project is heading into the
summer stronger than ever. We’re ready for this fight.
Please
make a contribution before the end of the month and help keep us in
the fight.
Thank you for your continued
support of the Lincoln Project.
