Dear NRDC Activist,
We've never been this close to losing Alaska's iconic Arctic National
Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling…
The Trump administration will soon begin selling oil drilling leases in
the Arctic Refuge, and oil megacorp Chevron is chomping at the bit to be
among the first to get in.
This regional initiative is a pioneering, market-based program to
drastically cut carbon pollution from power plants across the Mid-Atlantic
and Northeast U.S.
Bowing to public pressure, fossil fuel giants like Shell and BP have
signaled they will not purchase leases in the Refuge — but not Chevron,
which clings steadfastly to its hopes of plundering the Arctic Refuge for
financial gain.
[ [link removed] ]ACT NOW: Send a message directly to Chevron's CEO calling on him to
pledge not to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
Trump's Interior Department is just days away from signing off on its plan
for drilling in the Arctic Refuge — the very last decision required before
they can begin auctioning off this pristine, publicly-owned land to
companies like Chevron.
Our
public lands do not belong to Big Oil. We will challenge the Trump
administration in court to halt fossil fuel development in the Arctic
Refuge, and we believe we can win.
Because there is so much at stake.
The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is the largest wildlife refuge in
America. It's an unspoiled haven for polar bears, wolves, eagles, and
caribou, ground zero for climate change, and vital to the culture and
survival of the region's Gwich'in people.
Drilling here will cause immediate, irreversible damage. A sprawling
network of roads and pipelines will be built, destroying the sensitive
coastal plain and risking devastating oil spills.
At a time of deepening climate crisis, we cannot keep increasing our
reliance on the fossil fuels of the past. Instead, we should be investing
full tilt in the renewable energy resources of the future that create good
clean energy jobs and protect our environment, wildlife, wildlands, and
climate.
The bottom line is the Arctic Refuge belongs to us — the American people —
and this fight for its future requires a show of massive public resistance
to any company that wants to ravage our land for its own financial gain.
We must [ [link removed] ]put the heat on Chevron to change course and spare the Arctic
Refuge from devastation.
[ [link removed] ]Make your voice heard: Tell Chevron to follow the lead of its primary
competitors and stay away from the Arctic Refuge.
NRDC is on the frontlines fighting to save the Arctic Refuge and so many
more of our cherished public lands and waters — in and out of court.
[ [link removed] ]Right now we need your help to pressure Chevron to keep its hands off
the Refuge.
Thank you for standing with us at this critical time.
Sincerely,
