Hi team,

It’s great to meet you! As the new Executive Director of The Fairness Project I thought I’d reach out to introduce myself and thank you for all of your support. 

Though I’m new to this role, I’m not new to the organization. I’ve been launching our people-powered campaigns to expand Medicaid, raise the minimum wage, and provide paid leave for the past four years -- and this work is my lifelong passion. 

Growing up, I learned that politics and government are how we come together as a society to make decisions and make change. My dad teaches at a public university and studies our democratic institutions. To him, there is no higher calling than public service -- what he calls “doing the people’s work.” That could mean working in the halls of government, but it really means any effort that benefits the many, not the few; that advocates for democracy, equality, and justice.

Striving to do the people’s work has been the north star of my career. I’ve had the privilege of working on Capitol Hill helping to draft the Affordable Care Act and in President Obama’s Administration working to implement the law. I’ve worked with labor unions and health care advocates to improve our public health care programs, Medicare and Medicaid. 

I am immensely proud of my contributions to those important efforts on behalf of the American people, and yet nothing has felt more profoundly aligned with my aim to “do the people’s work” than my time with The Fairness Project.

Ballot initiatives let the people enact their will directly into law, going around the special interests, backroom deals, and political compromise.

When politicians refuse to act on common sense issues -- like raising the minimum wage, providing earned paid sick leave, and expanding health care -- The Fairness Project works to help voters break through the gridlock and change their lives for themselves.

Together we’ve won 20 campaigns since 2016, changing over 17 million lives in red, purple, and blue states.

That’s the power of direct democracy. That’s the power of doing the people’s work, and doing it together. 

I am humbled and honored to be taking on this new role at The Fairness Project and very excited to keep working with you to build upon our winning record of directly changing lives through ballot measures. 

Together, with grassroots supporters like you by our side, we’ll break through the gridlock and win real change across the country.
