Happy Juneteenth, John!

Juneteenth is the anniversary of the day that enslaved people were freed in the United States after the Civil War.

But this holiday is about more than just commemorating the emancipation that took place over a century ago. The day has become a celebration of Black resilience. And yet, the reality is that Black people shouldn't NEED to be so resilient, constantly fighting injustice after injustice.

Today serves as a critical reminder of the many ways that the Black community continues to struggle for true freedom today. They are not free from police brutality. Not free from voter suppression. Not free from housing discrimination. Not free from bias in the workplace or in our criminal justice system. And the list of areas where Black people are disproportionately impacted goes on.

We must ALL do our part in rooting out systemic racism if we're going to guarantee freedom and justice for all. And that means standing with the Black community in their fight for equality.
