On Justice for Janitors Day

Dear Friend,

Today is Justice for Janitors Day, a day that commemorates the actions, demonstrations, and events that have been part of the fight to win fair wages and benefits for janitors across the country.

Justice for Janitors was the one of the first campaign of DC Jobs with Justice, back in the early 2000's. We stood with workers and brought together allies to fight and win. Twenty years later we are still fighting just as hard, and tens of thousands of people have been part of our work.

Today we’re setting out to tell the story of DC JWJ over the last 20 years. We want you to be part of it. As part of our 20th anniversary year, we're kicking off a community storytelling project that will run all summer long. Explore the project and add your story:

Three leaders — including Maria Naranjo of SEIU 32BJ, above — are the first stories we’re sharing as part of this effort. Maria was there when Justice for Janitors was out in the streets and you can listen to her story as part of the project.

We want to collect as many stories as possible this summer about the campaigns, actions, and community over the last 20 years of our work. Contribute your memories and we’ll feature them all summer long.

You can also see the events coming up as part of our 20th anniversary year. We hope you’ll join us for our upcoming discussions, street outreach, and community picnic.

The last 20 years have been made possible because of a coalition of people who believe in fair wages, better benefits, and an economy that works for all of us. Thank you for being part of it.
