John Fetterman is right: Joe Manchin must open his eyes to reality.
Republicans in the Senate have a vested interest in eroding voting rights across the country. The simple truth is that the future of our democracy is at stake, and now is not the time to pretend that Republicans will turn over a new leaf and be interested in bipartisan compromise any time soon.
But Joe Manchin isn't listening. He refuses to support the For The People Act -- a bill he co-sponsored just two years ago -- and he's refusing to take any action on the filibuster. While others continue to focus on persuading Manchin away from his position, we're preparing for the 2022 midterms.
John Fetterman is running to replace retiring GOP Senator Pat Toomey, and Fetterman would give the Democrats a tremendous shot at EXPANDING our majority in the next Congress. Fetterman is a bold progressive who understands that Republicans are making a steady yet relentless march towards authoritarianism, and Fetterman is up for stopping them in their tracks.
Fetterman knows the January 6 insurrection was just the beginning of GOP-sanctioned attempts to subvert our democracy. And he knows that if we can't pass basic protections for our right to vote, then we will face catastrophic losses in elections for generations to come.
