This week, Seattle reached an incredible milestone: *We became the first major American city to fully vaccinate 70 percent of our residents 12 and older!* In my State of the City address, I said that I wanted to Seattle to become the first major American city to fully vaccinate 70 percent of its residents.

Seattle is now America’s most vaccinated major city, and it would not have been possible without our residents’ commitment to protecting themselves, their loved ones, and our entire community. We have had incredible partners with our small businesses, community based organizations, health care, philanthropy, Public Health – Seattle & King County, Governor Inslee, and Executive Constantine. Now that we have reached community protection, we can lead the nation in safely reopening and recovering in earnest.

With this level of vaccination, our City is on a path to safely reopen and begin our work to build back better and more equitably as a city. In the coming weeks and months, our task will be to ensure Seattle can emerge from this pandemic better than we were before. That means rolling out new relief programs for our residents, small businesses, and workers, partnering with community organizations to help revive our neighborhoods, and gradually and safely reopening our own City services that were paused due to the pandemic.

Thank you, for prioritizing community safety, and getting vaccinated against COVID-19. We reached this milestone because Settle residents and workers, got vaccinated to keep themselves, their friends, families, and communities safe.

Now, I encourage you all, to get outside and support a local small business, help revive our historic arts and cultural scene, and enjoy our unparalleled Seattle summers safely. Even with this exciting milestone, our work is not yet done. Please, if you know someone who has not yet been vaccinated, do everything you can to help them get their shot. Visit seattle.gov/vaccine [ [link removed] ] to book an appointment or receive more information.

As always, please continue to write me at [email protected], reach out via Twitter [ [link removed] ] and Facebook [ [link removed] ], and stay up-to-date on the work we’re doing for the people of Seattle on my blog [ [link removed] ].

WEEKEND READ: Serving Our Community During COVID: SFD Continues To Reach Milestones In Testing And Vaccinations

"Seattle surpassed San Francisco, which led the country in vaccinations."

Seattle is the first major American city to fully vaccinate at least 70% of city residents against COVID-19 [ [link removed] ], Mayor Jenny Durkan announced  [ [link removed] ]Wednesday.

Seattle surpassed San Francisco, which led the country in vaccinations.

Currently, 78% of Seattle's population age 12 and older has started the vaccination process.

“When we launched our vaccination effort earlier this year, I said that I wanted Seattle to become the first major American city to fully vaccinate 70% of its residents," said Durkan. "Today, I am incredibly proud that we have reached that goal."

“Now that we have reached community protection, we can lead the nation in safely reopening and recovering in earnest," she added.

To date, the city has administered more than 249,000 vaccinations - or more than 131,000 people.

Durkan thanked health care providers, business and community partners, staff and volunteers for contributing to the effort.

"It's an amazing accomplishment, and if you look back to where we were, you know, we were the first city in. We had the first deaths. We had no guidebook; we had no access to testing. We stood up one of the best national testing programs and then built on that with a vaccination program," said Durkan. "Every step of the way, the people of Seattle have met the moment.
