John,
Tomorrow marks five years since the horrific mass shooting at the Pulse Nightclub. It was an absolutely disgusting, tragic hate crime that is still the second deadliest mass shooting in modern American history.
A man killed 49 people and wounded 53 more in a mass shooting inside Pulse, and an unnerving three-hour standoff ensued.
Senator Marco Rubio needed to take action, but meaningful change was too much to ask for – so platitudes were offered through a resolution honoring the victims.
Initial drafts of the resolution used the accurate phrasing, "the deadliest mass shooting in the modern history of the United States.” But Rubio's re-election campaign can't handle that reality and it was edited out.
Pro-gun, anti-LGBTQ Rubio refuses to call Pulse nightclub shooting a 'shooting'
The edits are significant because they reveal just how far Marco will go for money and support from the National Rifle Association – even when his constituents are dying.
Marco's record on guns is terrible and well-documented.
Following the Parkland shooting, Marco looked into the eyes' of survivors and refused to stop accepting campaign funds from the NRA.
His narrow commitment to make it more challenging for guns to get into the hands of children and teenagers couldn't quite get accomplished.
Consistently, he's walked back on promises, and touted the rights' of gun owners.
This PRIDE month, we stand up for the victims, survivors, and their families of the mass shooting at the Pulse Nightclub. The violence never should have occurred, and they deserved so much better from the Senator in the aftermath.
