What a wonderful evening! Thank you to all who joined us on Tuesday to honor award-winning actress and mental health advocate, Taraji P. Henson, as Children’s Law Center’s 2021 Distinguished Child Advocate.
“Children’s Law Center and the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation share so many of the same values and goals, including getting mental health support into city schools,” shared Taraji P. Henson when accepting her award. “I couldn't be prouder to join forces with Children’s Law Center who is leading the fight to get it done here in the city that I call home.”

During the event, Taraji spoke about her childhood growing up in DC and how it prepared her to “tackle Tinseltown.” She also took a walk down memory lane – naming the schools and landmarks she remembers growing up.

As the conversation continued, Taraji reflected on her experiences with mental health and highlighted how Children’s Law Center is combining our efforts with her foundation – the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation – to get mental health services to children and families in the Black community. Named in honor of her father, the foundation is working to get therapy to more people and increase the number of Black mental health providers.
And, with Father’s Day just around the corner, you too can honor an inspirational man in your life!

Your donation will allow us to reach even more children with behavioral health support – and advance our work to ensure every DC child has a stable family, good health and quality education.

Keisha Hale, former client and now social science researcher, shared during the event, "Children’s Law Center was there when I needed support, and now I get to pay it forward. Let's ensure that every child has access to the support they need."

As we celebrate our 25th Anniversary all year long, please help us continue to lead the fight to make sure every DC child can access mental health supports.
