It goes without saying that assault weapons are deadly, and taking them off our streets saves lives. When the federal assault weapons ban was in place from 1994-2004, there was a reduction in mass shootings – if anything, the experiment was a smashing success!!

A federal judge in California just overturned the state’s three-decade-old ban on assault weapons.

He called the ban a “failed experiment” and compared AR-15 assault rifles to Swiss Army knives!

It goes without saying that assault weapons are deadly, and taking them off our streets saves lives. When the federal assault weapons ban was in place from 1994 to 2004, there was a reduction in mass shootings – if anything, the experiment was a smashing success!!

Since the ban expired, assault weapons have been used in the deadliest mass shootings in the last decade.

The data is clear: Assault weapons bans save lives. So do you think we should pass a federal assault weapons ban?

David is the author of the new Assault Weapons Ban to prohibit the production and purchase of new assault-style weapons that are designed to kill as many people as quickly as possible.

Since the original ban expired in 2004, numerous bipartisan attempts have been made to renew this critical piece of legislation. And yet nothing has been done – even after assault weapons are used in tragedy after tragedy.

This ruling out of California makes it clear that Congress must take action to pass federal legislation to ban assault weapons. It’s shameful that we ever let an assault weapons ban expire in the first place, leaving in its place a patchwork of state laws of varying effectiveness.

So, do you think Congress should take up David’s new Assault Weapons Ban and get these weapons of war off ALL of our streets? Let us know here:
