Earlier this week, Sean Hannity attacked me for calling Joe Manchin’s refusal to support abolishing the filibuster what it is: a vote to preserve Jim Crow. Check it out:
(I’m the "Democratic Congressman" being referenced, if that wasn’t clear.)
Here’s the thing, John — I stand by my comments. And I’m hoping you’ll join me in sticking up to Sean Hannity by adding a contribution to my re-election campaign today. Please, if you’re able:
Just so we’re clear, the filibuster was created by accident in the 1800s, and subsequently was used to block the passage of civil rights legislation.
Today, it’s not much different. Republicans continue to use the filibuster to block any bill that would make a real difference in the lives of the American people. Right now, they’re blocking the For the People Act, which would undo voter suppression in states like Georgia and Florida, as well as the Equality Act, a bill to extend Civil Rights Act protections to LGBTQ+ Americans. This obstruction will not stop until we abolish the filibuster.
I’m proud to serve in the House of Representatives, and I’ll never hesitate to call out legislators like Joe Manchin who use “bipartisan compromise” as an excuse to prevent democracy-saving legislation from passing. Sean Hannity won’t make me back down.
So please, if you’re able:
Thank you, as always, for your support.
I’ll never stop fighting for what’s right, and I know that we can abolish the filibuster if we keep the pressure on high.
Onward,
Mondaire
