John,
Last year during a presidential debate, Donald Trump commanded the far-right extremist group, the Proud Boys, to "stand back and stand by." It was a clear call to action, and the Proud Boys did exactly as they were told.
New reporting uncovered that a GOP consultant working with the Nevada Republican party sought help from the Proud Boys to build a crowd for a pro-Trump rally after the 2020 election. In a text, he echoed Trump's "stand back and stand by," which led to members of the Proud Boys joining other Trump supporters at the Clark County Election Department to protest the counting of ballots.
Then, when Trump told supporters to "fight like hell" on January 6, the Proud Boys once again followed orders and joined the violent mob that stormed the Capitol building.
We think you can tell a lot about a person by the company they keep -- and Donald Trump and Republicans have surrounded themselves with white supremacist extremists. Their close ties to extremists are a danger to our democracy.
We can't afford to wait for Trump's next call to action to fight back. Chip in $5 or more to help us defend our democracy from far-right extremists.
