Dear John,
I’m sure by now you’ve heard the news: Sen. Joe Manchin will not vote in support of H.R. 1, the For The People Act. Frankly, we’re not disappointed, we are outright angry.
|
The For The People Act would:
- Make it easier to vote in Federal elections by creating an automatic voter registration
- Provides a pathway to end the scourge of corporate money and power in politics
- Shine a light on dark money spending in campaigns by requiring more donor disclosure
- Eliminate institutional barriers to voting

When Tedra was elected to the St. Lawrence County Legislature she took on Democrats and Republicans to pass an ethics law that reduced corruption and required more financial transparency from elected officials and candidates. This push didn’t win Tedra any popularity contests among legislators. She did it anyway, because it was right. That’s the expectation we have for BACKROADS endorsed candidates.

In order to hold the house in 2022 we must expand the map. That means, competing in EVERY rural district. That’s why we started BACKROADS PAC. We’re not willing to accept just any Democrat or candidate.
We will work tirelessly to elect candidates who are going to go on the offensive, who will boldly support reforms that make it easier to vote, eliminate pay-to-play politics, and give rural America a voice in every room where decisions are made.
Every dollar you contribute will be used to help rural Democrats succeed. November 2022 may seem far away, but in order to flip these majority making seats, we are starting our work now. Join us, let’s fight for every seat.
Mauranda Stahl-Simmons
Executive Director of BACKROADS PAC
