Honestly, it’s outrageous that we’re even having this discussion. Instead of fighting for ALL Americans, the Trump administration is arguing that it should be legal to fire someone on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Let that sink in.
The leader of the free world is slamming the door on the LGBTQ community and telling them their existence isn’t valid in our country.
This is just another item on the long list of dangerous GOP policies that target marginalized communities.
The Trump administration has actively fought against trans students using the bathroom consistent with their gender identity, prevented same-sex couples from passing citizenship onto their children, instituted a hateful trans military service ban, tried to legally define gender as fixed at birth, and appointed anti-LGBTQ judges to courts across the country — including the Supreme Court.
We must take a stand on the right side of history and fight together for fairness, equality, and opportunity for all.
I was proud to join my colleagues in the House to pass the Equality Act, which would guarantee legal protections from discrimination for the LGBTQ community. But with Trump and Mitch McConnell in charge, it doesn’t stand a chance of passing the Senate, getting to the president’s desk, and becoming federal law.
