Egale Canada is horrified and deeply saddened by the discovery of the remains of 215 children in an unmarked mass grave on the site of a former residential school in Kamloops, British Columbia. We honour their lives and acknowledge the indescribable loss faced by families whose children were forcibly taken from them.

Indigenous 2SLGBTQI people in Canada are disproportionately affected by poverty, violence, and illness. It is our responsibility to fight for justice for our entire community, especially its most marginalized members, and we are committed to continuing that fight every day.

Now is the time to listen to Indigenous leaders and community members on what they need from us in the broader community in order to begin to heal. The horrors of the past cannot be undone, but action can and must be taken now to ensure a more just future.

In Conversation: Masculinities and 2SLGBTQI+ Communities.
This event and Q and A will take place over Zoom next Thursday, June 3rd, 1:00 pm- 2:45 pm EST.
Featuring young social activists and community leaders from the Greater Toronto Area and beyond, this panel will provide a safe space to explore the topics of masculinity, gender identity with 2SLGBTQI youth. To deepen the dialogue, the panel discussion will be guided by questions related to:

  • Masculinity, gender identity and expressions

  • The impact of gender norms

  • Intersectional perspectives on masculinities and the impact on youth in relation to race, class, ability, immigration status, faith, spirituality and culture.

  • The importance of allyship towards those who do not identify as male or present as masculine.

  • Healthy and unhealthy forms of masculinity, relationships and working toward a future of resilience.

Egale’s new video series on 2SLGBTQI Family Planning & Assisted Reproductive Technologies answers top questions around family planning for 2SLGBTQI communities – in both the Federal and Provincial (Ontario) context.

Can a surrogate be paid? What are the rules and regulations around sperm donation? Where in Canada are multi-parent families permitted? Questions like these will be asked and answered. Have your say – we’re looking for community consultation, as questions will be addressed in our video series launching August 2021.
