Help Fair and Square flip Texas Blue!

John-

The House Democrats have defeated SB7!

Just when Texas Republicans were poised to remove any ability to debate the bill as the law intended, Texas Democrats decided that enough was enough.

And then they left the chamber, breaking quorum.

Without enough votes to make a quorum, Speaker Phelan was forced to stop the proceedings on SB7. At the same time, Democrats boldly ran out the clock on voter suppression in Texas.

Texas Democrats successfully protected your right to vote!

John,

ICYMI: Texans are facing an all out assault on our right to vote. Over the course of the legislative session, Republicans have introduced numerous bills intended to dismantle the very fabric of our democracy.

Texas Republicans have authored bills to:

  • Reduce the number of polling places in minority neighborhoods.
  • Restrict voting hours.
  • Enhance poll watcher freedoms, allowing them to video record voters at the ballot box.
  • Prohibit local election officials from distributing applications for mail-in ballots and prevents them from spending funds on local GOTV groups for assistance.
  • Require doctors's notes for voters with disabilites to cast a mail ballot.
  • Prohibit mail ballot applicants from attempting to “solicit a person to complete an application." (Which again, poses problems for Texans with disabilities and potentially means even social media posts promoting VBM applications are off limits.)

Since Texas Democrat's resounding victories in 2018, the Republican party has been absolutely terrified of losing power nationwide. They spent millions of dollars in 2020 to register millions more conservative voters in Texas  and their plans worked — we were defeated, resulting in the oppressive and toxic behavior we see in Austin today.

Now, Texas Republicans are bringing back SB7 and they are very close to preventing Democrats from being competitive in the state for at least another decade. With only two more days to go in the 87th session they just might succeed if we don't act now.

To that end, Team Fair and Square has spent many months gearing up to pivot to a brand new mission — to create a free and fair election process by activating and informing Texas voters. We believe that more people should have a say in how our tax dollars are spent, our interests are represented, and how Texas pursues justice for its people.

To accomplish our goals, we will work with allies both in and out of state to fund voter protection initiatives and deploy massive voter registration drives across Texas. We'll also work to keep state leaders accountable for their bad votes and provide voter protection programs wherever possible.

If each one of us reading this email were to put our best foot forward over the next 18 months, together we could outwork Texas Republicans, easily. It's only a matter of who has the will to take on the challenge.

Can we count on you to join our cause?
