Seattle Democratic Socialists of America

Tuesday is Seattle DSA's General Membership Meeting at 7 PM. If you're a member, register here. We'll elect delegates to represent us at the biannual DSA National Convention, the largest democratic forum within DSA. We've got exciting announcements from the Nikkita Oliver for District 9 Campaign, the Kshama Sawant Solidarity Campaign, and the Stephanie Gallardo for Congress (WA, D-9). There's also plans for PRIDE to be announced!

We're phonebanking to pass the Pro Act and are almost at 1,000,000 calls. Register here to make calls and join the fight. The legislation aims to end "Right to Work", allow secondary strikes, ensures green jobs will be union jobs, and most importantly ensures that essential workers have actual leverage over their employers. Just 1.9% of agricultural workers are unionized due to current laws making it harder to stage actions and be protected while doing so. Details on the legislation here.

The Committees are packed. We want housing for all, healthcare for all, and climate justice for all!

  • Housing Justice Working Group meets Wednesday at 2 pm to table in Columbia City then meets at 7:30 pm that night online.
  • Healthcare Working Group meets Saturday at 12 pm. They recently rebooted and are looking for volunteers to round out their team. Join here.
  • Green New Deal and Ecosocialism meet Sunday at 6 pm. Register here.

There's also an Information Security Training meeting hosted by Madison on the #tech_team at Seattle DSA. This includes best practices to stay safe online and while attending events -- which protects not just you but those around you. June 6 at 1 PM. We want you to make it home safe and able to fight another day -- and good infosec practices can help make that possible.

Outside of DSA, there's also a listening session from South King County Redistricting on Wednesday from 5-6:30pm. RSVP form here. Facebook event here. Districting not only means resources being allocated to our communities but also political representation and power being allocated to our communities as well. The group's goal is to ensure South King County isn’t divided into different districts. The 9th congressional district has kept its minority-majority status for years but with the next redistricting initiative it could be subject to change.
