We’ve talked a lot this week about the Republican budget―but President Biden released a budget proposal this week too, so let’s spend a little time on what it proposes.

Not only does it not raid Social Security’s trust fund or call to raise the retirement age, it reverses some subtler trends from Trump’s budgets.

The only cut to Social Security programs is putting a stop to Trump appointees’ web of disability reviews designed to kick people off benefits. Under President Biden’s budget, people who need benefits will get them.

Social Security Works. That’s why Republicans want to destroy it, and why we have to fight so hard to protect it. Together, we’re going to put the Republican budget where it belongs: in the garbage! Chip in today!

So naturally, Wall Street-loving politicians who have been hell-bent on destroying Social Security since 1935 see eliminating Social Security’s $2.9 trillion trust fund as a necessary step to its ultimate ruination.

By mashing Social Security’s dedicated funding with the government’s general operating fund, the very thing that has protected Social Security for all these years would be gone, and it won’t be long before more cuts come.
