Dear John,

The Texas Senate is trying to use last minute legislative tricks to undermine sexual education in Texas. We urgently need your advocacy this morning.

A bill that would have required parents to actively opt their children in to sex education failed to get key hearings. However, senators attached it as an amendment to a critical school finance bill. Now, it could become law without going through the full legislative process.

We need you to call or email these members with the following message:

“I strongly oppose the sex ed opt in language that has been added to HB 1525. It’s essential that you remove this language in conference committee.

Texas already has extremely strong laws notifying parents about sex education and allowing parents to opt their children out of sex ed classes.

This opt-in language would just create red tape for students, families and school districts. Have you ever missed a form or a permission slip in the bottom of your inbox or your child’s backpack? Students could lose access to important health information because of this red tape.”

Thank you,
