Surrey Heath News
CVQO Ltd: I am absolutely delighted that CVQO Ltd, based in Surrey Heath, has recently been awarded with a Princess Royal Training Award 2019. The Princess Royal Training Awards recognise the impact of employers' investment in training, and organisations of all sizes and sectors are invited to apply. It is completely free to enter, and to learn more about how to apply for an Award in 2020, please visit this website.
Ash Vale Train Station: I am continuing to press for step-free access to be installed at Ash Vale Station, and I have written to Network Rail to nominate the station for the Access for All Mid-Tier Programme, and to ask also whether accessibility improvements can be made during any other planned project works.
Fairoaks Airport: Fairoaks Garden Village Limited (FVGL) recently held a two-day public exhibition at Fairoaks Airport about the proposals for a 1,000 homes. FGVL submitted its planning application to both Runnymede and Surrey Heath Borough Councils in July 2018, and held this exhibition to provide the public with additional information relating to certain aspects of its proposals, such as the phasing of the development and changes in the level of accommodation for the elderly. Further details can be found here. I viewed the exhibition, and I remain deeply concerned about these plans. I have written again to Surrey Heath Borough Council to reaffirm my view that these proposals are not the right future for Fairoaks.
School Visit: A couple of weeks ago I again visited Gordon’s School in West End. It is a fantastic school, and it was a great pleasure to talk to a number of Year 11 students and to answer their questions.
Harry's Hydrocephalus Awareness Trust: It was a huge pleasure to meet the delightful little Harry, and to talk to his mum and dad who have started a charity, Harry’s Hydrocephalus Awareness Trust, in order to support other children, like Harry - and their families - who are affected by arachnoid cysts and/or hydrocephalus. This charity is also doing brilliant work in training health professionals and promoting research into the prevention and treatment of hydrocephalus. This condition affects 1 in 1,000 babies born in the UK, and to learn more, and to offer support, please visit this website.
A322: I frequently receive complaints about the A322 Lightwater bypass, and it is recognised as the most significant cause of traffic congestion in Surrey Heath. I am also aware that the A322 lay-by in Bagshot is causing local residents a great deal of misery. I am working with Councillors to find solutions, and have written to Surrey County Council and to the Department for Transport to seek the necessary investment.
Pelican Crossing at Ravenscote: The Council has recognised the need for a safe crossing at Ravenscote Junior School but, due to budget constraints, it has been limited to merely installing a Road Table. Despite this, there have been continuing reports of numerous near-misses of children, and thus the issue remains a cause of significant concern for parents. The introduction of a Pelican Crossing would allay their understandable fears, and I have appealed to Surrey County Council and to the Department for Transport for additional funding.
