Team,
One year ago today, George Floyd was murdered.
Thousands of Americans took to the streets last summer angry, grieving, and outraged. They marched to demand solutions to police brutality and justice for Black lives. In Congress, we channeled that energy into legislation and introduced the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.
But all these months later, this bill is still sitting in the Senate awaiting action.
We cannot wait another moment. We can and must reimagine what policing looks like in our country – because too many Black lives have been lost at the hands of those who have pledged to protect and serve.
Will you add your name here to demand the Senate pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act immediately?
This legislation would end the use of chokeholds, establish a National Police Misconduct Registry, demilitarize local police departments, and ban no-knock warrants for drug-related offenses, among many other important reforms.
We must have accountability. We must have reform – and while there is much more to do, this bill is a critical first step towards confronting institutional racism and ending police brutality.
We can’t let another moment go by without meaningful action on policing reforms and justice for Black lives. Please add your name to demand the Senate pass the Justice in Policing Act now!
My thoughts are with the Floyd family today.
