THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
1. GOV. LUJAN GRISHAM POLITICAL PROFILE; FOR HERSELF, NOT FOR NEW MEXICO
Gov. Lujan Grisham has made multiple announcements since she took office and not one has been beneficial to New Mexico. A recent article from the Santa Fe New Mexican discusses her recent political profile growth but she is really focused on promoting herself. Look at the article and try to spot anything remotely benefiting New Mexico.
From the Santa Fe New Mexican:
National media coverage about a plan to eliminate college tuition.
Unveiling new fuel economy standards at a climate change event in New York.
Withdrawing National Guard troops from the border in a challenge to President Donald Trump.
These are just some of the policy initiatives Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has pushed in New Mexico during her first nine months in office that are garnering national attention — the kind that creates inevitable talk about bigger, if not necessarily better, political landscapes…
For instance, there’s climate: A recently inaugurated Lujan Grisham issued an order aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the state.
There’s gun control: She’s already signed a controversial background check bill and wants to pass so-called red-flag legislation in the next session.
And others: The governor is making legalizing recreational marijuana a priority and has taken on other contentious issues, such as an abortion bill that failed earlier this year…
Looking through the lens of reality:
When looking at the first three sentences there is no differentiation between the work the Gov. is supposedly doing for New Mexico and the work being done by the far-left Democrat Party. These are bumper-sticker policies that, simply put, are not feasible in New Mexico. Gov. Lujan Grisham is not working for the people, she is working for national attention.
2. REPUBLICAN CITY COUNCIL PROPOSAL ADDRESSING YOUTH VIOLENCE LACKS MAYOR'S SUPPORT
Democrat Mayor Tim Keller and his administration are not supporting Albuquerque city councilors' proposal to address the youth violence across the city. The proposal was introduced by three councilors including Republican councilors Brad Winter and Trudy Jones. The Mayor needs to put politics aside and reel in crime in Albuquerque.
From the Albuquerque Journal:
Just days after a teenager died following a house party shooting, three Albuquerque city councilors announced a proposal to pump new money into the city’s “party patrol” program – though Mayor Tim Keller’s administration made it clear late Thursday it will not duplicate that old strategy.
Councilors Trudy Jones, Ken Sanchez and Brad Winter are proposing $150,000 “to provide funding for the party patrol program” – something Winter said effectively curbed local youth violence during its first run in the early 2000s.
Through the Albuquerque Police Department program, officers worked special overtime shifts specifically to answer party calls. They would issue citations to underage partiers and call their parents…
Winter said Thursday afternoon he was uncertain exactly how APD would run the program, including whether it would issue citations to those found drinking under age 21. He said Keller’s administration, including police and attorneys, would have to determine the details and that it might go by a different name.
“I think the administration needs to look at what part of it worked and didn’t work (in the past) and adjust it,” he said..
On Sunday, 17-year-old Sandia High School senior Sean Markey died following a shooting at a high school homecoming party.
