One year ago today, George Floyd was murdered by Derek Chauvin.

Friends,

One year ago today, George Floyd was murdered by Derek Chauvin. Since then, people in Minneapolis, Colorado, and across the world have taken to the streets to stand against racial injustices in the fight to bring transformative change to police policy.

We can't bring back the countless Black Americans who have died at the hands of the police, but we can honor their lives and work to prevent future tragedies. Violence against Black Americans won't stop unless we do something about it.

That's why I voted to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. If enacted, this transformational police accountability bill would:

  • Ban qualified immunity;
  • Make chokeholds a civil rights violation under federal law;
  • Ban no-knock warrants in many cases;
  • Require federal officers to wear body cameras and operate dashboard cameras;
  • Create a federal registry for police misconduct;
  • Enhance anti-profiling training;
  • And more.
We have to set basic standards for what is and is not acceptable and make this country a more equal place. I hope you will join me in supporting sweeping police reform and accountability measures.

Thank you,

Jason
