TELL YOUR SENATORS IT’S TIME TO PASS THE GEORGE FLOYD JUSTICE IN POLICING ACT

Dear John,

Today marks the one year anniversary of the murder of George Floyd. While the trial of Derek Chauvin, one of those former police officers involved in the murder, ended in a guilty verdict, far too many similar cases await real justice.  That is why it is critical for Congress to finally begin to address the racial inequities and lack of accountability that exists in our judicial system.

Toward that end, the U.S. House of Representatives has passed the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act (H.R. 1280), but the Senate has yet to act.

At ASBC, our advocacy for an economic system that works for all requires the introduction of substantial policy solutions to end systemic racism, beginning with the adoption of H.R. 1280 to provide more accountability and eliminate racist practices in police departments across the country.

Join ASBC and a growing number of responsible businesses and investors who are demanding a decisive transformation of a law enforcement system in which African Americans are three times more likely to be killed by a police officer and five times more likely to be incarcerated.

Sign on to this letter to urge your senator to pass key policies to make police departments more accountable through the use of body cameras, incentivize bans on choke holds and carotid holds, and prohibit no-knock warrants in drug cases.
