"Mississippi is now firmly the least democratic state"

It’s no surprise that the state with the highest proportion of Black voters is now the hardest to vote in. The GOP’s latest attack on voting rights is clearly a racist tactic rooted in Jim Crow era voter suppression. In fact, Mississippi still has laws from Jim Crow in effect today.
The Mississippi Supreme Court struck down the state’s ballot initiative process, invalidating a 2020 initiative to legalize medical marijuana and a major setback for the State’s effort to expand early voting and Medicare.
This ballot initiative was voted on, and passed, by the citizens of Mississippi, but now their voice is silenced by this court decision.
In order to maintain our Democracy, we can’t let this attack on the People’s voice go unnoticed. Add your name to denounce the Mississippi Supreme Court’s undemocratic ruling >>
The GOP in Mississippi have worked to make it next to impossible to cast your vote and make your voice heard, just see for yourself:
- They don’t have early voting
- Both an excuse and notarization are required to request and cast an absentee ballot
- Voter registration is required 30 days before an election (the maximum allowed under federal law) — and they offer no online, same-day, or automatic registration
- They have banned 1 in 9 people from voting for life due to felony convictions — a policy that disproportionately affects Black voters at 2x the rate of white voters
We’re committed to expanding voting rights and making our Democracy accessible to every American, while the GOP continues to focus on making it harder for everyone to vote. Add your name to condemn these actions >>
Thank you for taking a stand against voter suppression,
