We talk about the importance of “lived experience” here on Team Mayorales often. One reason it’s so important is because we know that the people closest to the problem are the ones who are closest to the solution.
Dianne knows what it means for the government of our city to exploit the vulnerable — people of color, immigrants, women, the LGBTQ+ community — instead of protecting them. She’s lived it. She knows what it’s like to be targeted by a predatory, corrupt city official and not know where to turn. And she knows she’s far from alone.
This lived experience drives her to fight, every day, for a New York City where no one is exploited and where the government works for the People rather than working to take advantage of them. It drives her to root out corruption wherever it appears.
Our opponents think they’ve uncovered a weakness in Dianne’s candidacy. They don’t realize that Dianne’s lived experience reminds so many of us of our own experiences at the hand of a government that does not care about the People. This so-called weakness is really a source of strength for this grassroots, People-powered movement.
When Dianne says she knows what it means to be a New Yorker, she means it — and as Mayor, she’ll draw on her lived experience to fight for all New Yorkers, root out corruption and build a government for the people.
