Team - It's been over 4 months since the January 6 insurrection and the images of that day are still fresh in our minds.

The uncertainty and terror were unlike anything I've experienced in the U.S. Capitol. Many of us in the building on January 6 - Democrat and Republican alike - have spoken publicly about the fear we felt for ourselves, our dedicated staff, and every person who works in the Capitol complex.

And yet some members of the Republican party insist that what occurred on January 6 was not an insurrection, was not a violent attempt to overthrow the government and install Donald Trump as the winner of the 2020 election.

In a recent hearing, Rep. Andrew Clyde characterized the riot as resembling "a normal tourist visit." Rep. Paul Gosar accused the FBI of "fishing" in their investigation of the insurrection and accused the agency of "restricting the liberties of individuals that had never been accused of a crime." And Rep. Jody Hice miscontrued the timeline of the events of January 6 to reduce Trump's role in instigating the attacks.

That's why I've asked my colleagues to officially censure these Republicans who have recently downplayed the Capitol attack. Their lies, misinformation, and obstruction cannot stand if we are going to protect our democracy moving forward.

By attempting to revise history, these Trump acolytes are asking us to move on from - and in fact, shove under the rug - one of the darkest days in our nation's history out of a deranged loyalty to the former president and a refusal to accept the results of the 2020 election.

I won't let that happen without consequences for those who were complicit in the violence that took place.

Thanks for standing with me,

- David----
