In a city dominated for decades by wealthy corporate interests, our willingness to upend the status quo came as a surprise to some. They’ve called us radical. They said we had no chance. They said New Yorkers would never rally behind a candidate who unapologetically called to defund the police and reimagine community safety.
They don’t understand that this moment requires exactly the kind of transformation this movement calls for.
