May is a big month for me.

My family celebrates Mother's Day (2nd Sunday in the U.S.), Dia de la Madre (Mexican Mother's Day), and my birthday -- which happens to be today!

With COVID-19 climbing rates around the world, last year was a departure from celebrating this time with rooms full of friends and family. I didn’t get to hug my mother or cram into a restaurant booth with my sister and split a dessert. My kids didn’t get hugs and secret candy from their abuela and tias.

Though an end is in sight this year, we’re not quite out of the woods yet, especially as I wait for my young kids to become eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine. Even though we all can’t be together just yet, we can still work together to make sure that our communities are happy, healthy, and equitable.

That’s why I’m celebrating my birthday by highlighting candidates who are working for the families of North Texas:

D. Michelle Ocker, Roxanne Martinez, and Deborah Peoples are in municipal runoffs, and they have the opportunity to change the face of representation in North Texas now and in the future.

Their last election this year is June 5th. Can you help them reach as many voters as possible by chipping in? ([link removed])
