Hello,

Welcome to my latest bulletin. Read on for my rapid update on today's Queen's Speech, with some of the key pieces of legislation we are planning on putting through over the next year.

We are bringing forward new laws to level up the UK

Building Back Better
As we recover from the pandemic, our aim is to build back better. Our bold new policy interventions will improve opportunity and boost livelihoods across the country. Despite the challenges of Covid-19, levelling up and ensuring that the whole UK can benefit from the same access to opportunities remains core to the Government’s vision.

Legislation will focus on various issues including improving living standards, growing the private sector, increasing and spreading opportunity, job creation and clearing backlogs in hospitals and courts. I was also very pleased to see the commitment to levelling up our rail and bus infrastructure which I continue to lobby hard for through Cheadle's £25 million Towns Fund.

Recovery from Covid offers us the chance to balance opportunities across the UK and I will be continuing my work with the Northern Research Group in advocating for the levelling up of our area.
We are backing life-long education!
Our guarantee for lifetime skills
Today, the Prime Minister also unveiled a revolutionary commitment to skills and training as part of our Lifetime Skills Guarantee. New laws will create a post-16 and adult education and training system that is fit for the future, providing the skills that people need for well-paid jobs and opportunities to train throughout their lifetime.

As well as this, we are committed to ensuring that every child has a high quality education. We will do this by focusing on gaps in learning and catch up programmes on learning lost during the pandemic. But we will also make sure that children have the best start in life possible, with continued emphasis on early years.

50% of over-80s have now had both jabs - offering one of the most vulnerable groups even more protection against this virus

Protecting the victims of crime
Building on our extensive work over the last 18 months protecting victims of domestic violence and gender based crimes such as 'upskirting', we are bringing forward proposals to address violence and support victims.

Too often our focus is on the criminals, who should rightly be punished for the crimes that they commit. However, once justice has been served, we often assume that this is enough for victims. Crime can, and does, have a huge impact on its victims, both during the judicial process and afterwards. We will continue to work to protect victims and I look forward to seeing the Draft Victims Bill later this year.

My Views

In addition to regular casework correspondence, I receive a number of campaign emails and postcards each month regarding various topics. While I always prefer to get back to people directly in the first instance, each month I publish these views on my website. You can read these here ([link removed]) .

Surgeries

I hold regular surgeries both at my office in Cheadle Hulme and around the constituency. My team and I continue to assist on all enquiries so please do continue to get in touch with us.
Thank you for taking the time to read my latest e-newsletter. As ever, if there are any issues you'd like to raise with me then please do get in touch.
