Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful mothers, here in the Ocean State and across the country!

Today, we celebrate and thank the strong and amazing mothers in our lives. I want to say a special thank you to my mother, Sabra, who inspired me throughout my life and helped to get me where I am today.

As a country, today and every day, we need to bring mothers and women to the forefront of conversations to discuss the policies that affect them and their families most – and we need to keep asking ourselves how we can best serve the mothers of America.

Support for new moms, accessible pre-and-postnatal care, paid leave, affordable childcare, safe schools, and affordable healthcare for our children. Parents across this country are standing up to demand better from their government – and I’m proud to be in that fight with them.

From passing the Paycheck Fairness Act to make equal pay for equal work a reality and reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act to getting the American Rescue Plan signed into law with historic investments in our kids and families, the time is now to make it easier to have and raise a family in America.

I hope you’ll take some time today to reflect on (and thank) your mom, or a mother figure in your life. Then, let’s make tomorrow better than today, and get back to work to pay forward the opportunities our mothers gave to us.
