Team,
Last month, the House of Representatives voted to make Washington D.C. a state. David proudly cast his vote to give statehood to D.C.
Why? Washington, D.C. has a population of over 700,000 people – more than some states! And yet, because D.C. is not a state, its residents are denied the right to equal representation in Congress.
Hundreds of thousands of Americans deserve representation: two Senators and voting representation in the House. Denying people their voice in government is voter suppression – period.
Sign on here to demand the Senate take action to make D.C. a state and grant its residents the representation they deserve!
D.C. residents are American citizens, pay federal income taxes, and serve in our military. Yet, they are denied the right of self-governance and equal representation in the United States Congress. America is the only democracy in the world that denies the citizens of its Capitol voting representation in the parliament or national government.
And with a majority Black and brown population, D.C. statehood is also a matter of racial justice.
David believes it is long past time these taxpaying Americans receive the full benefits of federal representation. Do you agree? Add your name to this petition!
